“KÖLNER KUNST MOMENTE”

(ART MOMENTS | COLOGNE)

OPEN AIR - ART EXHIBITION

28.07. - 15.10.2026

Ehrenstraße & Willy-Millowitsch-Platz / Cologne

"KÖLNER KUNST MOMENTE" (ART MOMENTS | Cologne), Cologne's first open-air exhibition, is a collaborative art initiative created for the city of Cologne by German-Iranian artist Jean Nejadi, curator Roderik Helms, and entrepreneur Peter Möltgen. The exhibition will be officially opened by the Mayor of Cologne, Maria Helmis-Arend, during a "Walk of Art" on Ehrenstraße on July 28, 2026. Furthermore, as a prominent figure among Cologne's women in art, she serves as the patron of the initiative.

The three key figures behind KKM are the visionaries and initiators of the project, having first come together in August 2024. This meeting sparked their shared desire to contribute to the beautification of the city of Cologne through various art projects.

Since June 2025, the KKM initiative has been developed in close cooperation and driven forward using the founders' own funds. Its successful implementation now serves as a prime example of how citizens can actively make a difference for Cologne as a hub for art and culture through voluntary work.

“KÖLNER KUNST MOMENTE”

(ART MOMENTS | COLOGNE)

THE PRE-LAUNCH 20.01.2026

OPEN AIR - ART EXHIBITION

Ehrenstraße 74 / Cologne

The Pre-Launch of the Open Air - Art Exhibition "KÖLNER KUNST MOMENTE" - KKM (ART MOMENTS | Cologne) took place on January 20, 2026, at Ehrenstraße 55 in front of the Möltgen perfumery, where we invited numerous press representatives for a photo opportunity!

Under the motto "We bring a smile to the city's face," gold-framed artworks (as printed posters in A1 format) featuring funny faces & whimsical grimaces will adorn the lantern crowns as an open-air gallery. They will shine down on passers-by, beautify and upgrade the cityscape, and bring people from different cultural backgrounds into dialogue, thus bringing them together.

It all began with KKM's inquiry to the KSTA series "100 Ideas for Cologne," which received a brief, positive response from you. This led from the art installation of the perfume bottle "Essence de Légèreté" - symbolizing the scent of lightness/freedom in city life - to the faces of KKM in Ehrenstraße. The future plan is to expand this art campaign to other high-traffic shopping streets in Cologne, with a sculpture project to follow.

Our quirky art campaign will engage citizens and provide "good vibes". True to the motto "Ärmel Huh" (Roll up your sleeves), we are taking action with our own initiative and contributing to a positive change in the "face of the city."

THE IDEA FOR “KÖLNER KUNST MOMENTE” / ART MOMENTS | Cologne

It all started out with an idea for the “100 Ideen für Köln” - Series of Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger:

Subject: IDEE/BEITRAG EINER KÜNSTLERIN KÖLNS FÜR KSTA: 100 IDEEN FÜR KÖLN

Guten Tag Frau Brasack

IDEA / CONTRIBUTION BY A COLOGNE ARTIST FOR KSTA: 100 IDEAS FOR COLOGNE

What is my idea for Cologne?

My idea: “KÖLNER KUNST-MOMENTE” / ART MOMENTS | Cologne – Bringing art into the city as an everyday, joyful discovery and experience for both locals and tourists, and thereby revitalizing the city. Art objects are placed in parks and squares, but also in small alleyways, to be discovered on your own and as a beautiful surprise in everyday life.

The objects of these “Art Moments” are sculptures, murals, facade paintings, painted cobblestones, etc. With and without words. Colorful, childlike, witty, simple. They lift the mood, create joy, kindness and love in everyday life. They also speak to people of all ages, with different origins and social backgrounds, because they convey universal values and themes.

Why would this be good for the city?

The “Cologne Art Moments” are intended to positively change the appearance of the city. They will foster citizens' creativity in everyday life, motivating them to find creative solutions in their jobs and lives. They will create “good vibes,” put a smile on people’s faces and bring lightness into the lives of its citizens. Humor and color have a proven positive effect on the psyche. They will inspire people to be kinder to themselves, to each other, and to the environment, and inspire children and young people. They will reflect the wishes, dreams and ideals of society and bring hope for the future. Through these “Art Moments,” the city will reinvent itself. Cologne played a significant role in the international art scene in the 1980s. This power and energy is still inside this city, waiting to be reawakened. Every tourist who thinks of Cologne should associate it as a new hotspot for art. It will be a tourist magnet and will enrich the cultural life of the city. The “Cologne Art Moments” could actively contribute to this.

How could it be implemented?

With the concept of “Cologne Art Moments” and the right high-profile public campaigns, we can make Cologne and its cityscape shine again with pulsating life between cafés, culture and creativity. The implementation presents us with very special challenges. Collaboration with Cologne museums and their supporting measures through special exhibitions could draw attention to these art objects and thus serve as advertising beyond the city limits. Artistic ideas and inspiration from other metropolises and cities could also be included and adopted. They would provide creative stimulation and find a newly interpreted application adapted to the city's sensitivities. In addition, the ideas of other citizens can be artistically designed, thereby made more beautiful and more interesting. The proposed market hall by chef Julia Komp, for example, could be combined with art, as in Barcelona.

What is needed for this?

A shared vision with strong willpower, implemented together with the city, investors, artists and citizens' initiatives in a collective mission for a shared, more beautiful urban home. We want to set signs – “Cologne Art Moments”. “Art with a healing effect” for the common good. Let’s do it. Roll up our sleeves!

About the idea creator

Jean Nejadi is a German-Iranian artist. Born and raised in Iran, she came to Germany in 2003 to pursue a master’s degree in mathematics. Since her arrival, she has lived in Cologne as her chosen home and decided two years ago to devote herself exclusively to art. Her iconic Pop Art figures and compositions radiate a feeling of happiness and a special wit, and trigger smiles and healing joy in the viewer. They are intended to be a positive stimulus for the everyday life of citizens, encouraging creativity rather than consumption; a contrast to the monotonously dulled, globally standardized campaigns and poster-like images of global retail chains.
